Becoming a Love and Logic Parent®

Parenting Classes Begin May 13

As parents you have only a few years to prepare your children for a world that requires responsibility and maturity for survival. That thought alone can send shivers down your parental spine!

Goochland County offers the Becoming a Love and Logic Parent® education program, an interactive series of 4 two-hour sessions.  These workshops help parents to provide a nurturing environment which encourages children to make healthy choices.  It is based on a win-win approach to parenting that teaches young people how to be responsible, and parents how to establish healthy controls.

Once again, GCPS students have the opportunity to be recognized at September’s Field Day of the Past event for their summer reading efforts. Students can be a part of the fair’s celebration by reading ten (or more) books over the summer, recording their efforts on the Blue Ribbon Reading Log, and returning the completed log to their teacher by September 11, 2015.

This year’s Field Day of the Past event is scheduled for September 18-20, 2015.

Music is being provided by the Henrico Concert Band and their participation fostered including a Children’s Parade on the Green to kick off the program.
The Goochland High School Marine Corps JROTC unit will not only provide the Color Guard, but also several Cadets to assist in organizing the Children’s Parade at 9:40am. Major Petruzziello and SSgt Strong also plan to have a platoon of Cadets involved in the opening of the Ceremony. The Purple Heart Fire Truck will also be on sight for all to behold and enjoy complements of Post 215 member Herb Delbridge.

All attendees with thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the Guest of Honor Major Phil True USAFR Retired and veteran of the Battle for Iwo Jima (B-29 Navigator landing his crippled bomber before all hostilities ended) and a 40+ year CIA career. 

Both the Marine Corps League’s Honor Guard and Marine Veterans of the Korean War in battle dress (and displays) will close the ceremony as the Henrico Concert Band’s two Marine Buglers play a Heart Rending TAPS with echo! The Goochland Historical Society will also have open the Museum which has several treats of great interest.

The music begins at 9:40am as the Henrico Concert Band will entertain as the crowd arrives.
