Once again, GCPS students have the opportunity to be recognized at September’s Field Day of the Past event for their summer reading efforts. Students can be a part of the fair’s celebration by reading ten (or more) books over the summer, recording their efforts on the Blue Ribbon Reading Log, and returning the completed log to their teacher by September 12, 2014.
This year’s Field Day of the Past event is scheduled for September 19-21, 2014.

The GCPS cafeterias, under the leadership of Nutrition Supervisor Lisa Landrum, were pioneers in Virginia in implementing the Farm to School program, in which local farmers share their work with students while they enjoy food prepared with locally grown produce and meats.
Continuing the effort to ensure fresh, local foods are offered to our students every day, your cafeteria managers visited Newcastle Bee & Berry Farm in Hadensville yesterday where they hand-picked fresh strawberries to serve to our students in the cafeterias today.

Make sure to ask your child about the fresh berries and thank the cafeteria staff for the personal attention they give to ensuring healthy food is available to our kids each day!
We are thrilled to report that the GCPS transportation department has purchased two new buses to be added to the fleet. This purchase was made possible by the school board’s approval of the GCPS Capital Improvement Plan, which indicated a schedule of bus replacement in accordance with the VA Department of Education guidelines for safety and maintenance of a sound fleet.
This purchase was made through a contract established by the state of Virginia in accordance with the Virginia Public Procurement Act. We are especially thankful to Mrs. Betty Thurston for her leadership and for the mechanics and all members of the transportation department who ensure that the vehicles transporting students every day are safe and clean.
Several members of our community are partnering to help raise funds for Frida’s Mexican Grill in Hadensville after their facility faced significant fire damage recently. A GoFundMe account has been set up at:
